Book an intimate family, or corporate private dinner, on farm to learn about Indigenous foodways, contributions, and the history of our land. The perfect event for teambuilding, and equity work.
Amyrose Foll, featured in cookbooks, farming magazines, Native Sisters Decolonized Dinner, and Virginia Home Grown will take you though an afternoon or evening of menus items made exclusively of Indigenous foods farmed, foraged, hunted, and fished from the farm, and surrounding area.
To better appreciate Native American cultures, it is important to understand the indigenous foodways that existed prior to colonization and how the forming of this nation changed that. One of the biggest contributions of Native Americans was providing 60% of all foods that are used in the world today which include beans, corn, squash, tomatoes, potatoes, chili peppers, vanilla, cacao, and many other products that were grown and cultivated by indigenous people on the land.
Before colonization, Native Americans lived in healthy and thriving communities. Many tribes were agriculturists, while others were more migratory and prolific hunters/fishers and gatherers. All tribes foraged and preserved foods that would sustain them through the winter. Native Americans had a close connection with the earth and developed innovative ways of farming including raised beds and planting symbiotic crops together (corn, beans, and squash). Trade and commerce existed between indigenous communities that stretched from Alaska to South America.
